Bon Jovi returns to The O2

THERE GOES THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - Bon Jovi IS MOVING IN! The World's Biggest Live Band Take up Residence at The O2 - The Only European Bon Jovi shows in 2010
With over 120 million albums sold, countless awards and stellar stadium shows year after year, Bon Jovi have little more to conquer.

So it is with great excitement that the No. 1 touring band in the world announce they are moving to London for summer 2010 for a residency at The O2 arena.

Part of their globe trotting The Circle Tour, named after their forthcoming album, the band will set off in the spring of 2010 in the US, while the London residency will start June 2010.
After Bon Jovi opened The O2 on 24 June 2007, the now famous The O2 residencies have become synonymous with the biggest acts in the world.

Bon Jovi are as big as they come, while other artists of their generation slow down, the New Jersey natives are hitting their peak. They are ranked as Billboard's #1 top-selling tour of 2008 worldwide, release new album The Circle on November 2 with an incredible documentary When We Were Beautiful. First single from the album, We Weren't Born To Follow, is receiving massive radio support in the UK, including from Radio 1 and Radio 2.

With a live DVD of the band's acclaimed dates at Madison Square Garden to come on 23 November and the When We Were Beautiful book on 3 November, it is a great time to be Bon Jovi.

Alongside those 120 million albums sold, the band have performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans. Bon Jovi is at their best when they are on the move and that is truer now than ever before.

Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres are preparing to spend nearly two years spanning the globe, including landmark shows as the first musical act to play at The New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey on 26 & 27 May.

They announced their World Tour today at the venue's parking lot with a secret gig to over 5,000 fans to mark the stadium's grand opening. That was just the start of an amazing two years ahead for Bon Jovi, one of the greatest live acts on the planet. London is in for a treat.
AEG Live's Rob Hallett, promoting for the residency, comments:"When Jon Bon Jovi opened The O2 with the words, 'Hello London, welcome to your new home,' little did he realise that we were already plotting to make it his new home! Bon Jovi are the best live band in the World. This one could run and run."

Paul McCartney to play The O2 arena in London for the first time.

Following a sellout stadium tour of the US this summer, Paul McCartney today announces his first European Tour since 2004, “Good Evening Europe”. This December will see Macca play seven special arena shows across Europe, culminating with his first ever public performance at The O2 arena in London, which will be his only UK date of this year. Other firsts on this tour will include shows at Berlin’s O2 World venue and Dublin’s The O2. Paul’s legendary live performances are a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience. The audience gets to re-live some of the greatest moments in music from the last 40 years, many of which have become the soundtrack to living.

The O2 arena in London will host Paul’s final show of 2009 where he will bring the year to an end on a high. This will be his ONLY live show in the UK this year! Paul’s last UK show was a massive sellout concert at Anfield Stadium in 2008. At the time the Liverpool Echo wrote, “If Anfield had a roof, Macca would have blown it off.” The O2 arena does have a roof so it’s set to be a massive night of excitement and rock n’ roll Macca style! Although this is Paul’s first public performance at The O2 he is very familiar with the venue. In 2004, before The O2 was up and running as the world’s greatest music venue, Paul used the Millennium Dome (as it was known then) for rehearsals for his massive stadium “04 Summer Tour” which ended with Paul headlining the Glastonbury Festival which has gone down in rock history as the greatest festival moment ever. Although his rehearsals at the Millennium Dome were meant to be top secret, he was soon rumbled when a near by resident complained about the rock n’ roll noise upsetting his cat!

Before Paul reaches The O2 he will be visiting Hamburg, Berlin, Arnhem, Paris, Cologne and Dublin all this December.

Speaking about the tour, Paul said: "This is my chance to bring our current show home to where it all began. Starting in Hamburg, ending in London and rocking everywhere in between. I'm very much looking forward to ending the year on a high."

David Campbell, CEO of AEG Europe, owners and operators of The O2: “Paul McCartney is the dream act. I am absolutely thrilled that dream has now become a reality for The O2 and this true British music icon will play the building. It doesn’t get much better than this.’
What a year 2009 has been for Paul. He kicked it off by teaming up with Dave Grohl to perform “I Saw Her Standing There” at the Grammys, where he was also nominated for two awards. In April, Paul performed in New York at the David Lynch Foundation’s benefit concert, “Change Begins Within”. He was joined on stage with Ringo Starr for a special finale. Paul also headlined the Coachella Festival (his first US festival appearance) and performed a show to mark the opening of The New Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, a gig which sold out in seven seconds, setting a new sales record with tickets selling at a rate of 600 a second! July 11th took Paul to Halifax, Nova Scotia for his first ever concert there, which took place on the Halifax Commons. The mayor of Halifax described the show as the largest and most exciting concert in its 260 year history.

Following Halifax, Paul embarked on a five-week tour of the US; ‘Summer Live ‘09’. The tour commenced with the inaugural run of shows at New York’s Citi Field Stadium, which was the site of the former Shea Stadium where The Beatles made history in 1965 when they played a concert that set the precedent for the modern day stadium rock show. Critics hailed the Citi Field performances, seen by over 120,000 people, as the concert experience of a lifetime. The tour concluded in Dallas on the 19th of August.

For those of you who won’t be able to make it to one of the European shows this Christmas you can re-live the Macca magic with ‘Good Evening New York City’, a multi-disc CD/DVD featuring performances recorded at New York’s Citi Field from Paul’s ‘Summer Live ‘09’ tour.

02 Arena ditched for Huge car park plan

A plan for a massive car park to cater for O2 Arena concert goers has been shelved.
An application for the 800 space car park on East Wall Road was holded withdrawn after a request by Dublin City Council for extra information was not fulfilled.
City planners said it was not possible to determine "if acceptable drainage can be provided for this development" due to the lack of information.
The council's roads section also raised concerns, saying it wanted only one access point from East Wall Road.
Parkrite, which carries out clamping in Dublin city on behalf of the council, had applied for a temporary car park "to facilitate events in coincidence with the O2 Arena".
Senator Paschal Donohoe (FG) and councillors Emer Costello (Lab) and Christy Burke (Ind) objected because the plan would have led to an more traffic in the area.
"I welcome the fact that the application has been withdrawn. It (the car park) would have encouraged people to bring their cars into the area.
"It's a victory for the residents," Cllr Burke said.
A spokesman for the O2 said the concert venue was not mired in the application.
In his letter of objection, Senator Donohoe said locals had "justifiable concerns" about the impact of the increased traffic that the car park would create on the communities of East Wall.
Improve
City councillors have already called for a traffic plan to be devised for the O2.
The O2 spokesman told the Herald that public transport would be improved with the opening of the new Docklands Luas line.
He added that parking would be useable for concert goers in the Point Village development when it is completed next year.
The Point Village is being billed as "a world class business and cultural hub" and a "new iconic development".
It is next to the IFSC and the new National Conference Centre and will be joined to Dublin's city centre by the new Luas line.
The O2 is in East Wall Road, near Dublin Port at the site of the old Point Depot.
Car parking is useable nearbyat Conway House, the IFSC, National College of Ireland and Connolly Station car parks.

02 Arena BSkyB seals sponsorship deal

The five-year approval will give Sky first refusal on TV and online broadcast rights for most gigs and events at the former Millennium Dome.

BSkyB has struck a sponsorship deal with music venue the O2 that will include the launch of a VIP ticketing service for the broadcaster's subscribers and the rights to broadcast shows on Sky channels and online.
The five year deal, thought to be worth about £3m a year, will see BSkyB become a "founding partner" of the O2 alongside brands including Adidas, BMW and Coca Cola.
Sky has signed the deal with AEG Europe, which took over the former Millennium Dome in 2005 and rebranded and relaunched the venue as the O2, as the exclusive partner for TV, home broadband and telephony.

Sky will also have access to media and advertising space across the Greenwich venue, including at the 3D cinema. All screens at the O2 will be converted to high definition and used to demonstrate the company's Sky+ HD product.
The broadcaster will launch a reward programme to give Sky customers VIP access to adventures and screenings at the O2.
"Thanks to the venue's scale of reach, we are working with AEG to create a number of branding, exhibition and customer engagement opportunities that no other single entertainment location can offer," said the managing director of Sky's customer group, Brian Sullivan. "We will use this relationship to both absorb new conference and reward our valued customers."

02 Arena - Pearl Jam, The band's last UK appearance from a while?

Pearl Jam were in fighting form at the O2 Arena last night with front man Eddie Vedder in critical leading by example. Bounding on stage with the swagger of a boxer before a fight, Vedder led the band through a near two and a half hour set parmanent the length of their 19 year cource.

From the majestic beauty of set opening 'Release', from debut album 'Ten', the sell out crowd were in fine voice at times about drowning out Vedder during classics such as 'Alive' and extended construction of 'Black' and 'Betterman'. Two encores saw staple live covers of The Who's 'Love, Reign o'er Me' and Victoria Williams' 'Crazy Mary', the latter featuring guitarist Mike McCready trading yourself with organist Kenneth 'Boom' Gasper while Vedder watched on, wine bottle in one hand, artful cigarette in the other.

Although for many years seen as dour and humourless, the band watched to be genuinely enjoying the night with McCready running the length of the stage and along behind his head during ‘Even Flow‘. Even when Vedder dedicated ‘Light Years’ to a friend who’d passed away the day before, there was a trust in the performance that watched to set the tone of the evening, that life is abrupt and we should enjoy it while we can.

At one point Eddie reference that this would be their last performance here for quite a while. If true they truly went out with a suddenly ,no doubt leaving an indelible mark on the minds of many tonight. I just hope it’s not too long.

100 Day Countdown to Barclays ATP World Tour Finals Begins

The 100-day countdown to the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, which will be held at The O2 in London from 22-29 November, begins Friday.
Out of a capacity of 250,000, only 20,000 tickets remain on sale to tennis fans across the group sessions at The O2, which will host the eight-day singles and doubles tournament, welcoming a quarter of a million fans to watch the world's top eight players battle it out for the final South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings points of the year, and a chance to be crowned 2009 ATP World Tour Champion.
British favourite Andy Murray is close to joining all-time Grand Slam title-leader Roger Federer and reigning 2008 ATP World Tour Champion Rafael Nadal at the prestigious season climax, after his dramatic run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon last month. Novak Djokovic, winner of last year's event in Shanghai, Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick and last week's Washington titlist Juan Martin del Potro are also primed to secure one of the six remaining qualification berths as the US Open approaches.
Murray could replace Nadal at No. 2 in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings, dependent on results this week at the Rogers Cup, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal. The 22 year old could become the highest-ranked Briton in the Open Era if he 1) reaches the semi-finals and Nadal loses before the fourth round, 2) reaches the final and Nadal loses in the semi-finals or earlier, or 3) wins the fourth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title of his career.
Phil Anderton, Chairman of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, said: "Given the phenomenal demand for tickets so far, the prospect of watching the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray battling it out at The O2 in November is clearly a very appealing one. Benefiting from an overall capacity of just over 250,000, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is on track to become the biggest indoor tennis tournament of all time.
"The response from fans has been absolutely fantastic and is a reflection of the great appetite that exists for world-class tennis in the UK. With most sessions already sold out, there are only a few tickets remaining for the group sessions, where fans are guaranteed to see top quality tennis featuring only the world's Top 8 singles players and doubles teams. We look forward to welcoming the world's best players and the fans to what promises to be a spectacular sporting event."
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, previously known as the Tennis Masters Cup, has moved to London after a four-year run in Shanghai. The tournament has been hosted in some of the world's most glamorous cities and been won by the biggest names in tennis, including Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi and Bjorn Borg.
The event is the climax of the ATP World Tour, where players gather ranking points from more than 60 tournaments, including the four Grand Slams, played throughout the year. The eight singles players and doubles teams, who then finish with the most South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings points at the end of the regular season qualify to compete at the season finale for a total prize of $5 million and for the chance to become the ATP World Tour Champions of the Year

Concert Prep was Killing Michael Jackson says Chef

Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened in the days and hours before Michael Jackson died on June 25. But someone who witnessed the King of Pop's last days said she saw the toll the intense rehearsals for the singer's planned London comeback concerts were taking on the 50-year-old and that he said they were "killing" him.Chef Kai Chase appeared on CBS' "The Early Show" on Friday (July 31) and said that Jackson looked good and healthy in his final days, but that the grueling lead-up to the planned July 13 launch of the 50-show This Is It series at London's O2 Arena was hard on his body.

"This tour was very important for him," Chase said. "He [took] me to the side and told me, 'You know, I really need you to make sure that I'm eating organic and healthy. I know you know what you're doing, and I know you know what to do. That's why you're here. They're killing me. They're killing me. I'm working so much. I'm rehearsing a lot.'" Jackson's father, Joseph Jackson, has claimed that the promoters of the concert series, AEG Live, were working his son too hard and that Jackson was not well enough to perform the string of shows.Chase said Jackson was very excited about the shows and despite ample evidence that the singer was allegedly taking a number of prescription pain medications as well as the powerful anesthetic Propofol, she said she'd "never seen any evidence of drug use" at the rented Holmby Hills, California mansion Jackson was living in at the time of his death.

In light of revelations this week that police are investigation the 19 different aliases Jackson allegedly used to obtain prescription medications, Chase said she was "very shocked" to learn that her name was among the pseudonyms the singer was said to have used."This is all news to me. It's unbelievable. It's very shocking," Chase said. She also gave one of the first glimpses at what happened on the morning Jackson died, saying the singer's personal physician, cardiologist Dr. Conrad Murray, came downstairs 90 minutes later than usual that day to fetch the juices and granola that Jackson typically had every morning.

In an earlier interview with Chase said she got used to seeing Murray arrive at night and stay until after she left. When she would return the next morning, she described Murray coming down the steps carrying oxygen tanks, which officials believe might have been used in the administration of Propofol as a sleep aid for Jackson, who reportedly suffered from chronic insomnia. Murray is at the center of a manslaughter investigation and detectives are focusing on the use of the Propofol as a possible contributing factor in the singer's death.
